https://www.gumtree.com/
A) Purpose:
Gumtree is an online community based website which its main purpose is to advertise a range of products. This allows users to put up their items for sale in the hope that someone else would buy it. The target audience for this website would be mainly males who are in the age range 21 - 40, this is because a lot of the items on the site are seen as manly possessions.
B) Visitor needs:
One of the visitor needs of Gumtree is browsing through all of the items, so Gumtree has picture icons of all of the items that are on the website. This allows the user to see if the thing that they are wanting to buy is in good condition. The navigation bar also makes it easier to search through all of the items, the navigation bar has a drop down menu that with different categories within it so the user can filter there search. The navigation bar can also be filtered into how many miles you want to travel to pick up the product.
C) User experience:
Gumtree has a very simple layout which makes it very easy to navigate around the website. The contrasting colours at the header of the website make it easier to find the search bar. The way in which product is displayed makes is simple to see, you have the picture which is followed by the where the location of the product and when the product was put up for auction. To improve the user's experience Gumtree modifies the homepage for each user depending on what the user has looked at or purchased from the website.
D) features:
The Gumtree website has recently had a update so now the producers of the website have include a load of new features to the website. One of those features is called the 'Bump Up' feature, this feature allows the seller to place their advert back to the top of the listings to make it visible to the rest of the users. This feature benefits the user as it helps them their product notice by the public. One of the other main features of this website is the URL feature, this feature is allows the seller to put a link on the advert until the advert expires or it has been removed.
E) Benefits:
One of the benefits for the producers of Gumtree is the responsibility of the website fall on everyone that uses the website and not just the producers. The producers would have to manage the stocks of the website and they would have to monitor what is being auctioned on the website however, the website does rely on the users because if they don't put up anything for sale then the website would fail. One of the benefits for the users is that the website allows the user to communicate with the buyers. One of the advantage of this is that you can talk to the seller at any time about any of the concerns that you may have about the product, where as if you were to go in store to buy something you would have to wait to any sort of customer service.
F) Content:
The content on Gumtree has had many changes since it had first be released, to begin with there was no pictures of any of the items that where listed on the site so people had no idea of the condition of the item that they where going to buy. The advancement of technology now has changed the website so it can better fulfil is purpose. The homepage showcases all of the most recent items that has been put up for sale and all of the items now have the picture of it. This allows it to complete its purpose as a advertising website, people will be more attracted to a certain product if there is a picture with it so they know what exactly they are going to be buying.
